Healthcare

You care about your patients.
It’s our job to care about them, too.

Healthcare construction has evolved just as rapidly as the healthcare industry itself, with technological developments, medical breakthroughs, and new regulations impacting everything from small clinics to major medical centers. In many cases, facilities must be built while staff and physicians are still delivering patient care, and project designs must accommodate change, expansion, and redevelopment as the industry continues to evolve.

You need a construction partner who genuinely understands your business and can be an extension of your own staff.

Healthcare
Healthcare

Bouten has been a regional leader in healthcare construction for more than 70 years, building some of the largest and most complex facilities from eastern Washington to western Montana. We’ve established strong ties with local trade partners and city and state governing authorities across the region. And time and again, we’ve helped our clients meet both the short- and long-term health needs of the communities they serve.

Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center

Case Study

Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center

Since 1945, Bouten has partnered with Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center to build the largest quaternary care medical center between Seattle and Minneapolis. The 45-acre campus includes a 625-bed hospital, a Children’s Hospital, multiple medical office buildings and parking garages, the Heart Institute, and the central utility plant, all of which have been built by Bouten.

Workspaces

You mean business—not business-as-usual.
We’ll help you put your best ideas to work.

Today’s businesses work with an increasingly diverse and dispersed network of employees and partners, many of them in remote locations, on flexible schedules, or in need of special accommodations. They face a higher demand for sustainable, energy-efficient office spaces. And they need to build structures in keeping with the unique requirements of their business, with workspaces that reflect their values and brand identity.

You need a construction partner with a proven ability to create workspaces that simply work.

Kootenai Business Services

Case Study

Kootenai Business Services

Working closely with the design team, Bouten provided detailed estimates for multiple building system options with the goal of delivering a cost-effective, efficient and flexible office building. Through a highly collaborative effort, and despite one of the worst winters on record, the project team completed the building on schedule and below the owner’s budget.

Research/Higher Education

Working at the frontiers of knowledge isn’t for the faint of heart. Neither is building the facilities that make it possible.

Functional, cost-effective, designed to accommodate multiple users and a wide range of disciplines yet adaptable enough to respond to changing requirements: Research and higher education buildings are some of the most complex facilities a construction team can take on. It requires a particular focus on compliance and quality control and a proven ability to accommodate difficult site logistics—and a commitment to building spaces that meet tomorrow’s needs on today’s budgets.

You need a construction partner who understands the complexities of state-of-the-art labs and research facilities—and the challenges of today’s academic environments.

Research/Higher Education
Research/Higher Education

Bouten began work on the Gonzaga University Engineering Building back in 1949, and has been a leader on some of the region’s most complex construction projects ever since. From renovating historic campus buildings to constructing cleanrooms, pharmaceutical facilities, and biosafety level-3 laboratories, we know how to meet the high standards of the most demanding projects.

WSU - Paul G. Allen School for Global Animal Health

Case Study

WSU - Paul G. Allen School for Global Animal Health

Quality control was a major focus in the construction of this three-story flagship biomedical research facility that houses state-of-the-art BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratories that are used to investigate emerging diseases throughout the world. Bouten implemented stringent procedures aimed at meeting the performance requirements for these highly contained laboratories.

K-12

Working hand-in-hand with parents, teachers, and administrators to build beautiful, functional facilities where kids can learn and grow.

A K-12 facility is always about much more than the building itself. These projects frequently call for proactive outreach to parents, teachers, and the general public to help ensure an optimal outcome for all—often on tight budgets and even tighter timelines.

You need a construction partner that knows how to tackle K-12 projects while engaging proactively with community stakeholders.

K-12
K-12

Bouten made its first foray into K-12 education back in 1954, building a new home for Gonzaga Preparatory School. Ever since then, Bouten has partnered with schools both public and private to create spaces that shape the minds, memories, and lives of future generations.

Kennewick Elementary Schools

Case Study

Kennewick Elementary Schools

Over a three-year period, Bouten consecutively renovated three prototype elementary schools for the Kennewick School District. With a unique opportunity to continuously improve the project delivery process on each school, Bouten leveraged the use of the GC/CM process and Lean construction to shorten the schedule, reduce waste, and improve quality every step of the way.

Housing

A home is a source of stability—for families, neighborhoods, and communities. And a source of pride for Bouten.

As cities become ever more crowded—and as demographics and consumer preferences shift—demand has grown for housing that strikes a balance between suburban subdivisions and high-rise apartment buildings. Which means multifamily housing construction is more necessary than ever. Finding ways to might that need while still creating true homes calls for a collaborative approach and the right project delivery method.

You need a construction partner who understands it’s more than just a building. It’s someone’s home.

Our founder, Gus Bouten, built his first house when he was still a teenager. To this day, we carry that tradition forward, helping to build sustainable communities that not only provide happiness and well-being, but also give our lives meaning.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Inland Northwest

Case Study

Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Inland Northwest

Twelve years after we built the first Ronald McDonald House in Spokane, RHMC approached Bouten for help exploring options to expand the campus, both to meet a growing need and to better serve families in crisis. And in 2018, after a decade of strategic planning and site exploration in continued partnership with Bouten, that vision became a reality with the new North House.

Civic/Community

Engaging with community leaders to create spaces that bring people together.

No project occurs in a vacuum. But a community project, more than any other kind of construction, calls for active, informed engagement with the people whose cities, towns, and neighborhoods will be impacted and represented by the final product.

You need a construction partner who knows how to create spaces that are sources of community pride.

Civic/Community
Civic/Community

In Bouten’s civic projects, from convention centers to veterans’ cemeteries, we’ve worked hand-in-hand with local leaders to create meaningful gathering places for people throughout the Inland Northwest, often with high sensitivity to cost—and always with an eye and an ear to the communities we ultimately serve.
